Body sugar concentration control is optimised whilst preventing tooth decay by providing a drink based on a non-cariogenic liquid and separately packaged carbohydrates coated with at least one pharmaceutically-acceptable non-cariogenic carrier for controlled release. An oral formulation for optimising the control of body sugar concentration and for preventing tooth decay, used in combination with physical activity, comprises a non-cariogenic liquid (A) and a composition (B) containing carbohydrates coated with one or more pharmaceutically-acceptable non-cariogenic carriers. (A) and (B) are not in contact with each other. Independent claims are also included for (a) the use of the formulation for optimising body sugar concentration control and preventing tooth decay when taken in combination with physical and/or strenuous mental activity, (b) the use of the formulation for optimising body sugar concentration control and preventing tooth decay when taken in combination with a leisure or sports activity, and (c) a method for optimising carbohydrate intake during physical activity whilst simultaneously preventing tooth decay, by ingesting the film-coated formulation to temporary increase blood sugar concentration, and then allowing the controlled release of carbohydrates to increase the blood sugar concentration to the desired level. |
