PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compressor for video signal capable of improving through put time with a small calculation amount. SOLUTION: A video signal digitized by an A/D converter 1 and whose image is blocked in a buffer 2 is subject to orthogonal transformation into the frequency domain by a DCT circuit 3, quantized by a quantizer 4, coded by a variable length coder 5 as a compression code in the compressor. In the case of deciding a quantization value, a pre-processing circuit 7 reads blocks data from the buffer 2 to obtain a dynamic range and a mean value and a quantization value is decided based on them and given to the quantizer 4. |
