The system comprises a heater core (13), a bypass channel (15) through which air flows and which bypasses the core, and an air mixer valve (16,19). The air mixer valve controls the ratio of heated air directed through the core to the air directed through the bypass. The heater core is installed in the housing (11) of the air conditioning system so that a heat transfer section extends along the vertical direction of the vehicle. An upper section of the heater core is inclined by a predetermined angle in relation to the vertical in the direction of the upstream side of the core.
