PURPOSE:To give hydrophilic properties to the surface of a carbon fiber by irradiating the fiber surface with ultraviolet rays in an atmosphere of ozone for photooxidation treatment. CONSTITUTION:A carbon fiber such as PAN-based one or pitch-based one is subjected to photooxidation treatment by ultraviolet irradiation in an atmosphere of ozone to give hydrophilic properties to the fiber surface. By the above mentioned treatment adhesive strength on the interface between a matrix and fiber is improved and e.g. cement-wetting is especially improved. Therefor the above mentioned fiber can be impregnated with a cement paste and the resultant cement-paste impregnated fiber is piled up and cured to obtain a carbon fiber reinforced-cement composite material having high strength and high deflection. In addition, as adhesive properties between a matrix resin such as a thermosetting resin or a thermoplastic resin and the above mentioned fiber are improved, a resin composite material excellent in flexural strength and flexural modules can be obtained. By further carbonization of the resultant resin composite material, a carbon fiber reinforced-carbon composite material can be obtained. |
