PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure stable electrical characteristics and to form a satisfactory image free from fog even at a high temp. and humidity by incorporating specified alumina particles and a resin binder into an undercoat layer. SOLUTION: This electrophotographic photoreceptor is an org. one with at least an undercoat layer and a photosensitive layer on the electrically conductive substrate. The undercoat layer contains alumina particles contg. >=50wt.%α-phase and a resin binder. The electrically conductive substrate is a substrate of a metallic material such as Al, stainless steel, Cu or Ni or an insulating substrate of a polyester film, paper, glass, etc., with an electrically conductive layer of Al, Cu, Pd, tin oxide, indium oxide, etc., on the surface and an endless pipe of Al, etc., is preferably used as the substrate. The alumina particles preferably containθ-phase besides theα-phase. Thisθ-phase is a crystal phase having the highest stability at a high temp. among the crystal phases of alumina.
