PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and surely prevent the sticking of a foreign matter or a transfer roller and clean the roller for removing a residual electric charge. SOLUTION: In this method, after an electrostatic transfer is completed, an image carrier 1 is driven to rotate, the transfer roller 6 is rotated in press- contact with the image carrier 1 and a bias charge is applied to the transfer roller 6, to electrify it, so that a foreign matter stuck to the surface of the transfer roller 6 is stuck to the surface of the image carrier 1 and carried, and after that, the foreign matter is removed from the surface of the image carrier 1 by a cleaning means 8. Further, an electric charge on the surface of the transfer roller 6 is transferred to the surface of the image carrier 1 and then, the charge on the surface of the image carrier 1 is removed by one of an electrifier 2, an image exposure means 3, a separating means 7 and a preelectrifying exposure means 9. |
