发明名称 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a TN-LCD greatly improved in display contrast and the visual field angle characteristic of gradation inversion. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device of a normally white mode consists of a twist nematic type liquid crystal cell of a twist angle of approximately 90 deg. and two sheets of polarizing plates arranged on both sides of these cells. The device are formed by laminating at least one layer each of three kinds of optical compensation layers having different characteristics; (1) the optical compensation layer (A) having the characteristic that refractive index anisotropy hardly exists in the film plane and the refractive index in the film thickness direction is smaller than the refractive index in the plane, (2) the optical compensation layer (B) having the characteristic that the layer has optically positive refractive index anisotropy and the optical axis inclines by 20 to 70 deg. from the normal direction of the film and (3) the optical compensation layer (C) having the optically positive refractive index anisotropy and having uniaxial orientability in order of the polarizing plate/the optical compensation layer (A)/the optical compensation layer (B)/the optical compensation layer (C)/the liquid crystal cell/the optical compensation layer (C)/the optical compensation layer (B)/the optical compensation layer (A)/the polarizing plate between the liquid crystal cell and the polarizing plates on both sides thereof.
