Antibacterial ceramics, e.g. in the form of tiles or sanitary ware, have an antibacterial metal or metal vapour deposit on their surfaces. Also claimed is prodn. of the antibacterial ceramics by vapour deposition of the metal (pref. silver) or metal cpd. (pref. silver oxide) on the ceramics, pref. within a firing kiln or on a supply conveyor of the kiln.
