An interbody spinal fusion implant (100) for insertion across the height of a disc space between two adjacent vertebral bodies of a human spine comprises a flat upper and lower surface (112,114), which form a support structure for bearing against the adjacent vertebral bodies. Each surface has at least one opening therethrough, wherein the openings are in communication with one another to permit for the growth of bone from adjacent vertebral body to adjacent vertebral body through said implant. The upper and lower surfaces each have an interior surface spaced apart from one another to define a hollow interior in communication with said openings. The implant includes an access opening (132) between said upper and lower surfaces and an access door (134). The access door permits the introduction of bone growth promoting material into the hollow interior. The access door is configured to cooperatively engage said implant for retaining the bone growth promoting material within said implant. |
