The suggested process for preparing methyl ester or ethyl ester of arachidonic acid comprises extraction of fresh homogenized livers of domestic animals in the presence of an antioxidant under an inert atmosphere at a temperature ranging from 15 to 50 degC for a period of 3 to 8 hours, further subsequent transesterification of the extracted fat with methyl alcohol or ethyl alcohol in an inert gas atmosphere, in the presence of acetyl chloride and/or trifluoroacetic acid at a temperature ranging from 15 to 80 degC for a period of 1 to 4 hours and isolation and purification of arachidonic acid methyl ester or ethyl ester from the obtained mixture by combining freezing out and fractional vacuum distillation.
