PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new dibasic acid capable of providing an electrolyte for working an electrolytic capacitor, having a low specific resistance and a high sparking voltage and hardly precipitating a crystal even at a low temperature by performing a Fenton's oxidation of specific cyclohexanones and further hydrating the product. SOLUTION: This dibasic acid is obtained by performing a Fenton's oxidation of a compound of formulae I and II (R<1> and R<2> are each H or a 1-4C alkyl with the proviso that, when one kind of cyclohexanones is used, R<1> and R<2> are each a 1-4C alkyl, and when two or more cyclohexanones are used, at least one kind of R<1> and R is a 1-4C alkyl), and further hydrating the product. For example, the dibasic acid is obtained by reacting the component A with hydrogen peroxide in a polar solvent in the presence of an acid catalyst to provide cyclohexanone peroxide, and further acting a reductive metal ion to the cyclohexanone peroxide to dimerize the cyclohexanone peroxide and to form a dibasic acid diester, and hydrating the dibasic diester. |
