PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically brake a tailer so as to suppress the speed to the specified speed or less at the time of vehicle speed being increased in large degree during downward slope travel or constant speed travel without providing the trailer with an expensive coupling force sensor and a control device. SOLUTION: On the basis of engine speed and wheel speed detected on the tractor side (S1, S2), if engine driving force is judged to be in the state of not being transmitted to driving shafts of dirigible road wheels (S3) and body speed computed from wheel speed is judged to have changed (S5) it is so judged that a connected vehicle is traveling on a slope. When body speed changes in an increase direction, the connected vehicle is judged to be in downward slope travel, and a road surface gradient is computed from this change of body speed (S6). Using this road surface gradient, the upward thrust force increase portion of a trailer is computed (S8), and when the upward thrust force increase portion of the trailer is the specified value or more, a brake of the trailer is automatically actuated, an alarm is generated, and safety speed is displayed (S10).
