PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the vibration and heat generation of a drive motor to be suppressed even when the rotational speed of the motor is small at the time of high resolution by providing a control means for controlling the rotational speed of the motor on a paper carrying mechanism and controlling the rotational speed of the drive motor using electric current to be supplied to the drive motor. SOLUTION: A controller 1 outputs signal for switching a resolution to a CPU 2 for engine control in accordance with image data from an external device. When selecting between 600dpi and 1200dpi, for example. LOW is outputted for selecting 600dpi and HIGH is outputted for selecting 1200dpi. The CPU 2, receiving the signal for switching the resolution to 1200dpi, outputs an exciting pulse for making the carrying speed of a motor 3 half its previous carrying speed to a control logic circuit 7. In addition, CPU 2 changes the exciting pules of the motor 3 and at the same time, sets a current changing signal to 'HIGH' level.
