A snap fastening for closing an absorbent article, e.g. a diaper or incontinence guard comprises: (i) discrete pieces of material (7; 26), e.g. discrete strips, which are placed in mutually corresp. pairs on the absorbent article and which pref. are made of thermoplastic material; (ii) male and female elements (10; 11, 16; 17, 27; 28, 29; 30) formed on the same piece arranged such that they can only engage another such element in one orientation; and (iii) the male and female locking elements, pref. the whole of the discrete pieces of material in which the locking elements are formed, covered with nonwoven material. Also claimed are: (i) a method of mfg. diapers where discrete pieces of material are sepd. from a web and applied to a second web, (ii) a method of mfg. absorbent articles having fasteners comprising forming locking elements in regions of the pieces, and (iii) a method of mfg. absorbent articles comprising producing male and female formations in the regions and delivering to opposed outer surfaces of a diaper. |
