Pigment preparations useful as inks for ink jet printing comprising (a) water, (b) dispersing agent and (c) at least one pigment consisting of barbituric acid or a derivative of this substituted with methine or azo groups and optionally in the form of a salt, complex, solid solution, inclusion compound or intercalation compound.
