The cover is constituted by two widths (1,2) of fine sheet material is unrolled either side the vehicle roof from the boot opening to the bonnet opening. At these points anchoring weights are introduced. The cover has a lateral skirt fixed to the external edge of each width over a length equal to that of the roof. Each width is stored by winding inside a cylindrical reel (3,4) in which they are rolled. Webbing (6) is provided at its free end with a weight (7) sufficient to anchor the widths in the closed boot into whose opening the weight is introduced. When deployed over the roof the cover is held by cables (9) connected to an anchoring weight (10) through a spring (11).
