The invention concerns a device for stretching thin metal strips (20) by traction, in particular aluminium strips which are between 0.1 mm and 0.5 mm thick. According to the invention, a first stretching section (R1) is formed by a group of retaining rollers (1-5), which are interconnected by means of differential gears (12-16) and whose speeds of rotation are controlled as a whole, and a downstream central stretching roller (6) whose speed of rotation is controlled. This is followed by a group of pulling rollers (7-11) which are interconnected by means of differential gears (21-25) and whose speeds of rotation are controlled as a whole and which form a second stretching section (R2) with the central stretching roller (6).
