Tyre testing equipment measuring radial forces exerted by bead under controlled deformation

A new unit tests the bead characteristics of vehicular tyres (2) by measuring radial reaction forces. These are exerted by the tyre bead (3) against spreading segments of the unit, which includes a ring of at least 3, preferably 6-9 segments. The forces are a function of segment (4) ring diameter, which is adjustable, and the bead expansion. The segments have an axial surface contacting the similarly-axial seating surface (6) of the tyre bead (3). The novel feature concerns the surfaces contacting the bead seat surfaces, which do not run precisely axially, but are inclined at an angle to the mutual axes of beads and equipment.
