The torch comprises a moulded body (11) which is closed (57) at one end and which holds two end-to-end pairs of dry cells (12A-D), interconnected (58,60) within the body, giving four in series. Positive and negative terminals rest against metal contacts (46,42) beneath a tub-shaped moulding (14) within the lens (24) is screwed on this skirt, securing the reflector (22) and the tub (14). The bulb (18) holder is connected to the positive and negative battery contacts (46,42), contact pressure being increased (58,60) as the cap is screwed up. The final movement of the cap depresses a sprung lever (52) whose projecting nib passes through a hole in the contact (42), depressing the cells below and breaking the lamp circuit. The bulb and the connection circuit (16) are fitted on a lens (14) inserted in a circular accommodation (62) at the rear of the housing (11) and rotatable between a first rest position allowing access to the first compartment (30) for removal or insertion of the batteries and a second, in-use, position for supplying the bulb with voltage and blocking access to the compartment. |
