<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce needed amount of clarifier without adversely affecting the auqlity of glass and to reduce the toxic discharge from a glass melting furnace in the process for producing glass by using a batch clarifier together with dissolving water. SOLUTION: There is a king of relation between the amt. of water dissolved in a glass melt and the amt. of such a common clarifier as Na2 SO4 for removing a specified amt. of undissolved gas from the melt. Accordingly, the toxic discharge is reduced by partially substituting the clarifier for the water dissolved in the melt as a hydroxyl group. For the purpose, a first amt. of the effective clarifier formed from the batch of a glass producing material is determined, a second amt. less than the first amt. is added to this batch, the batch is heated to form a glass melt, and the entire undissolved gas is removed. In this case, the dissolving water is added in a effective amt. to remove the entire undissolved gas from the melt when mixed with the second amt.</p> |
