PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a maintenance free fluorescent lamp which has deodorization, antibacterial property and antifouling property by coating a specified light transmissive photocatalyst film on the glass tube of the fluorescent lamp and chemically decomposing odor components, fungi and fouling components by photocatalyst by light energy. SOLUTION: Sol liquid containing titanium dioxide or ferric oxide is brought into contact with the external surface of the glass tube 1 of a fluorescent lamp, sol liquid is sintered and photocatalyst 2 made of titanium dioxide having an anatase-type crystalline structure or ferric oxide having an alpha-type crystalline structure is formed. Film thickness is determined for 0.02 to 2μm and 0.01 to 0.1μm in titanium dioxide and ferric oxide, respectively. When this photocatalyst 2 is irradiated with light of the fluorescent lamp, electron and a hole are generated, various kinds of active species such as active oxygen and ozone hydroxyl groups are generated on the surface of catalyst, and odor components, fungi or oil sticked to the surface of the glass tube is decomposed into carbon dioxide and water, etc. Thus, the fluorescent lamp is made to have deodorization and antibacteria functions and a self-cleaning characteristics. |
