The invention relates to a dummy (mock-up) for live-firing practises, especially using anti-tank appliances or cannons, consisting of an element which is in the form of a board and has an outline which approximates to that of the target, the element which is in the form of a board consisting essentially of chipboard which has a bending strength of approximately 35 N/mm<2>, a transverse tensile strength of approximately 0.9 N/mm<2> and a thickness expansion of approximately 0.6%. In the case of a dummy having such material properties, the rounds (projectiles) which strike the element which is in the form of a board produce stamped-out holes which are virtually free of splinters and whose cross-section corresponds to the cross-section of the respective round. In addition, the dummy has particularly favourable oscillation characteristics which enable reliable hit indication by means of sensors.
