A method for detecting low reliability clusters of estimated code symbols within a received vector r, comprises the steps of generating a reliability vector s including reliability values for the estimated code symbols within the received vector r, and partitioning the reliability vector s into at least one region. For each region, the reliability values are compared to a first threshold value. The percentage of code symbols contained within that region having reliability values below the first threshold value is determined. The method determines the portion of the received vector r corresponding to that region as having a low reliability cluster of code symbols therein if the determined percentage exceeds a second threshold value. <IMAGE> |
