Catalyst support containing an alpha -olefin polymer in the form of particles of mean size from 5 to 350 mu m in which the pore volume produced by the pores of radius from 1000 to 75,000 ANGSTROM is at least 0.2 cm<3>/g. Catalyst usable for the polymerisation of alpha -olefins, including a compound containing at least one transition metal belonging to groups IIIb, IVb, Vb and VIb of the Periodic Table, bound into or onto this support.
