The system has a coolant circuit with a compressor (2), two serial condensers (3,7) on the high pressure side and/or two parallel vaporisers (14,16) on the low pressure side and controllers for selective operation of the system in heating, cooling or reheating mode. The first condenser on the high pressure side is subjected to circulating coolant on one side and to an air conditioning flow (17) fed into the passenger compartment on the other side in the heating and reheating mode so as to heat the air. The second condenser is subjected to the circulating coolant on one side and the cooling air (18) fed into the vehicle surroundings on the other side in the cooling mode, and optionally in reheating mode, so as to cool the coolant using the air flow.
