The kitchen unit, covered by a work surface fitted with cooking troughs, deep frying pans and the like, has a trough (15) let into the work surface (2), with cooling units (16) directly at it below the work surface (2), and in contact with the trough surface at the base and/or sides. The trough and the work surface are thermally insulated from each other. The trough (15) and the work surface (2) are of materials which can be welded together, and especially fine steel, which are welded to form the unit.
