PIVOTAL TRAY UNLOADING APPARATUS

A tray unloading apparatus (10) unloads documents (26) onto a feed ramp (30) from a container (28) which has a bottom surface (32) and forward (36) and rear (38) endwalls. The apparatus has a primary axis (40) coaxial with the common edge of the bottom surface and the rear endwall of the container. The apparatus includes a first planar reference surface (94), a second planar reference surface (96) fixedly attached to the first reference surface at a right angle and a support paddle (160) operatively coupled to the second reference surface. The first and second reference surfaces pivot backwardly about the primary axis effecting registration of the documents toward the first reference surface (94) and rotate leftwardly and rightwardly about a longitudinal axis (24) perpendicular to the primary axis effecting respectively registration of the documents toward the second reference surface (96) and effecting positioning of the documents (64) in an on-edge orientation in a coplanar relationship with the feed ramp (30).
