The bed has a frame (1) with a base (2,100) that stands on the ground (3). A threaded drive rod (12) connected to a motor (13) screws in a hollow tube (17), to telescopically adjust the height of the frame. The bed moves on castors (5), which are fitted in retractable mountings (6) connected to the frame. The mountings can include supports (10) to mount the rollers for translatory movement with respect to the base and actuators (11) to control translation of the rollers as a functions of at least part of the telescopic movement between the base and the frame.
