The drum type brake comprises a pivoting activating cam (10) for activating the brake shoe segments (8a). The cam is controlled by a transmission arm (12) connected to the end of the control rod (14) of a piston (15) in a control cylinder (16). An adjuster (18,19,20) allows continuous variation of the distance (d) between the connecting point (17) of the control rod to the transmission arm and the cam pivoting axis.
