DEVICE AND METHOD FOR DETECTING TAPE HOLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the presence and the direction of movement of an optical marker on a tape and allow the tape driving device to early cope with the initial transient movement by providing two optical sensors which pass a hole of a magnetic tape. SOLUTION: Light from a light source 300 of light emitting diode is made to pass a plastic light pipe 302 and is reflected by a mirror 304 inside the cartridge 200 to be caught by a light detector 306 through a hole of a tape 100. The light detector 306 has a first and a second light sensor which can receive the light having passed the hole of the magnetic tape 100. And depending on the order in which the first and the second optical sensors receive light, the direction of movement of the magnetic tape is determined.
