PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely perform control when drive of a liquid crystal device using a quaternary drive method and a charge/discharge drive method is stopped and to prevent a burning phenomenon by lowering a selection voltage, etc., to a prescribed voltage just before the drive is ended and stopping the drive after alternately applying the voltage inverted for a central voltage of a signal voltage once each. SOLUTION: The drive is ended after alternately applying the voltage adding the amplitude voltage of the signal voltage to the voltage (threshold voltage) of a boundary that a nonlinear resistance element becomes a conductive state and a non-conductive state or the voltage subtracting the amplitude voltage of the signal voltage from the threshold voltage, and the voltage inverting its voltage for the central voltage of the signal voltage once each just before the drive is ended, related to the whole scan electrodes. Respective drive waveforms applied to the scan electrodes are constituted of the binary selection voltage, that is, a first selection voltage Vs1, a second selection voltage -Vs1 and a binary non-selection voltage±Vsig/2. Then, just before the drive by the quaternary drive method is ended, the absolute value of the binary selection voltage is lowered by nearly amplitude much of a signal voltage waveform, and the quaternary drive is performed for a several frames period.
