The axle drive unit has a single motor (4) which drives the two wheels via individual reduction gears (17,26). For a compact layout with a reduction in the number of components, a common planetary gear stage (12) is fitted between the motor and the reduction gears. The planetary gear stage drives the two reduction gear stages via separate drive shafts (15,25). One of the drive shafts (15) is coaxial to the drive shaft (6) between the motor and the planetary gear stage. The sun gear, planetary cage, and outer ring gear of the planetary stage all rotate. The two output drives to the reduction gears are connected to different parts of the planetary gear stage.
