The system has a magneto-resonance (MR) device (3) and an X- ray recording device (7,10). These are arranged spatially such that the patient can be held within the range of operation of both devices using a common patient locating device (2) without needing to move the patient. The detector (10) of the X-ray appts, may be a solid state detector made of a matrix of detector elements. Preferably the MR device (3) is open at the side for a side access of the patient table (2) and the detector preferably lies opposite the side opening. The X=ray emitter may be connected to the MR device (3) such that it can selectively be brought into a parked position or an operating position.
