PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly sensitively detect the subject fungus causing the damping-off diseases of plants by adding a water-soluble sugar solution to soil contaminated with the fungus belonging to the genus Pythium in a low density to stimulate the germination of dormant oospores and increase the number of fungus, and subsequently detecting the increased fungus. SOLUTION: This method for detecting a fungus belonging to the genus Pythium in soil contaminated with the fungus in a low density of <2.5cfu/g dry soil comprises adding a water-soluble sugar solution such as a 0.01-3wt.% sucrose solution to the detection soil to stimulate the germination of the dormant oospores of the fungus and increase the number of the fungus, and subsequently highly sensitively detect the fungus belonging to the genus Pythium, such as Pythium deliense or Pythium aphanidermatum, by a dilution plate method or by a plant test method using cucumber, spinach or Chenopodium quinoa as a test plant. |
