PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set a proper precharge period without using erroneous line pressure which is different from present line pressure when the precharge period is set by using line pressure. SOLUTION: This transmission is provided with a controller 300 determining the maximum value of line pressure which can be realized at present from the engine speed detected by an engine speed sensor 303 and the temperature of hydraulic fluid detected by an oil temperature sensor 306, comparing this maximum value and target line pressure set by a line pressure control, selecting line pressure of the smaller value and setting a precharge period from this value and capacity of the hydraulic chamber of a friction element to be a precharge object or an oil path leading to the hydraulic chamber.
