1510070 Exhaust gas turbine driven superchargers BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 15 Oct 1976 [17 Oct 1975] 42897/76 Headings F1B and F1G A two-stage exhaust gas turbocharger comprises two shafts one disposed within the other, one shaft carrying an HP turbine and an HP compressor, the other shaft carrying an LP turbine and an LP compressor. In Fig. 1 inner shaft 4 is the LP shaft carrying the LP compressor 9 and the LP turbine 8, and the outer shaft 5 is the HP shaft carrying the HP compressor 11 and the HP turbine 10. The LP shaft is supported in bearings 6 and the HP shaft in bearings 7. Air enters the LP compressor through silencer 16 as indicated by arrow 15, is cooled in intercooler 18 before entering the HP compressor, and is cooled in the aftercooler 19 after discharge from the HP compressor. A set of interstage cranes is disposed between the HP and LP turbines. In Fig.2 the outer shaft 5 is the LP shaft and the inner shaft 4 the HP shaft, one of the inner shaft bearings 6 being located between the LP and HP compressors. An air intercooler 18 and aftercooler 19 are again provided. The air flows in opposite axial directions through the two compressors. In Fig.4, the assembly comprises an inner casing 21 in which the rotational assemblies are mounted, and an outer casing 22, the inner casing and rotational assemblies being arranged for axial withdrawal from the outer casing 22 as indicated by the arrow. A similar arrangement is described with reference to Figs.5 and 6 (not shown), but the inner assembly is removable from the outer casing 22 in an axial direction towards the turbine section. |
