The self-diagnostic method of a CD(compact disk)-ROM player inputs a self-diagnostic program in a system controller within the CD-ROM player, without any separate CD-ROM diagnostic device, to thereby sense a failure state of the CD-ROM player in an easy manner. The self-diagnostic method of the CD-ROM player comprises the steps of: determining whether a diagnostic function is selected in the system controller; determining the selected diagnostic object from the outside by means of the system controller; performing the diagnostic operation for the selected diagnostic object; and if it is determined that a corresponding equipment is abnormal through the diagnostic process, generating an alarming sound through an alarming generating means mounted on the CD-ROM player or a personal computer.
