The invention relates to an implantable stimulating device, e.g. heart pacemaker. The pacemaker (1) includes a means (6, 7, 8) for determining the variation in the spontaneous interval which corresponds to the length of the hearbeat cycle. The value of this variation may be used to control a pacemaker parameter such as pacing rate, and may be stored at regular time intervals to be available for monitoring.
