X=ray emitter esp. for removing gas from insulating oil with high power X=ray emitters

The X-ray emitter has a protective housing (1) filled with a fluid. The housing (1) contains an X-ray tube (2). The emitter also has an evacuated chamber (14) which is closed during operation of the emitter. The evacuated chamber (14) is separated from the fluid by a wall (15). The wall (15) does not allow the fluid to pass through but allows diffusion of gas molecules from the fluid. The emitter also has a grid (20) to receive the gas molecules removed from the fluid. A pressure is preferably provided in the chamber (14) which is less than the lowest gas particle pressure in the fluid, of a gas to be removed from the fluid. The chamber (14) may have an arrangement to withdraw the grid (20). The chamber (14) may also have a terminal (17) for a device for evacuating the chamber (14).
