The equipment (apparatus) allows a saddle-type connection tapping (2) to be installed on a pipe (1) from the top of a dug pit. The equipment comprises a framework (100) with a shovel-shaped pivoting support device (130) controlled by linkages and designed to be positioned under the pipe (1), and a removable tapping-positioner (200) guided in the framework (100) and including a cylindrical barrel (205) which is slit along one of its generatrices (206) and equipped at its lower part with a disconnectable module (220) acting on the edges (2d, 2e) of the tapping. Means (140) are provided on the framework (100) for selectively exerting a downward pressure on the tapping support module (220), and the removable module (220) has means (254) for welding the tapping (2) on to the pipe (1). A device (300) for screwing a plug (cap) (4) or a perforating (drilling) device (400) may be inserted into the cylindrical barrel of the tapping-positioner device (200) from the top.
