Foam suppressant for the paper industry

A foam suppressant (I) for the paper industry, consisting of an oil phase containing at least one of the components (a-e) and optionally water. The components are obtained by: (a) esterification of mono- and di-glycerides or mixtures thereof with dicarboxylic acids or their methyl and/or ethyl esters; (b) transesterification of triglycerides with glycerol to mono- and di-glycerides or mixtures thereof and esterification as for (a); (c) partial esterification of polyhydric alcohols with up to 6 hydroxyl groups and/or oligomers and/or polymers thereof with monocarboxylic acids or their methyl esters and further reaction with dicarboxylic acids or their methyl and/or ethyl esters; (d) at least 25% esterification of di- and/or tri-pentaerythritol with monocarboxylic acids or their methyl esters; and (e) transesterification of triglycerides with polyhydric alcohols containing up to 6 OH groups and/or their oligomers, and further reaction with dicarboxylic acids or their methyl a nd/or ethyl esters. Also claimed are processes for the production of these components.
