Hydroxamic acid derivatives represented by the following general formula and useful as a matrix metalloprotease inhibitor: R-X-B-N(R<1>)-A-CO-NHOH, wherein R is an optionally substituted cyclic hydrocarbon group or the like; X is optionally substituted alkylene or the like; B is carbonyl or the like; R<1> is hydrogen or optionally substituted lower alkyl in the case wherein B is carbonyl or sulfonyl, and R<1> is hydrogen, optionally substituted lower alkyl, optionally substituted lower alkanoyl or the like in the case wherein B is methylene; and A is methylene substituted with one or two optionally substituted lower alkyl groups.
