The steering column lock is for use in a road vehicle. In the locked state the shaft of the steering wheel (1) is decoupled from the shaft of the steering drive (2). The coupling consists of an axial toothed formation, or some other longitudinal profile of the two shafts, and an axially internally toothed coupling sleeve (3). The toothed formation of the two shafts has a tooth of different dimensions, such that the two shafts can only be coupled at one specific angle. An engagement sleeve (5) mounted on the steering wheel shaft acts with a ball (10) spring-loaded in a radial bore (8). USE/ADVANTAGE - Steering column lock for vehicle allows the steering wheel to turn without influencing the steering.
