PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain split fibers capable of giving a fabric having squeaky feeling, dry touch and light weight feeling by forming specific multilobe filaments from a composition consisting of a polyester and an organic compound incompatible with the polyester and subsequently splitting robes of the filaments by applying an alkali thinning treatment. SOLUTION: Multifilament yarns consisting of fibers having multilobe-shaped cross sections are produced from a composition consisting of a polyester and an organic compound, which is incompatible with the polyester and preferably expressed by the formula [Z is an organic compound residue having 1-6 active hydrogen atoms; R<1> is a >=>6C alkylene; R<2> is H, a 1-40C monovalent hydroxyl hydrocarbon, etc; (k)=1-6: (l) is a number making the product of (k) and (l) 70 or more; (m)>=1], etc. The obtained multifilament yarns are blended with multifilament yarns different from them. Subsequently, mechanical pressure is applied on the blended yarns to impart the fibers of the yarns with internal stresses at the roots of junction of the lobes, and they are subjected to an alkali thinning treatment to split lobes at the inner stresses. Thus, blended yarns of split-fiber multifilaments are obtained. |
