A process is disclosed for joining a pipe end which consists at least at the inner side of the pipe of a plastically deformable plastic material, to a pipe coupling with a bearing sleeve (3) surrounded by a pressing sleeve (4). Annular grooves (6) are shaped in the bearing sleeve. The bearing sleeve (3), pressing sleeve (4) and pipe end are first brought together in such a way that the pipe end comes to lie between the bearing sleeve and the pressing sleeve. The pressing sleeve is than pressed inwards in the radial direction. As a result, part of the material that constitutes the pipe end is pressed into the annular grooves, forming annular beads (26, 27). This process is characterised in that the bearing sleeve (3) has previously shaped annular grooves (6) whose cross-sections taper radially outwards, and in that the pipe end is pressed inwards in the radial direction in such a way that its annular beads pressed into the annular grooves sealingly lie on the side walls of the corresponding annular grooves in their tapering area. |
