PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restore transparent pixels correctly as transparent pixels by transmitting additional data for discriminating whether or not each pixel of source image data in image data units is transparent or opaque while maintaining the correspondence relation with data-compressed image data units. SOLUTION: A block division part 102 removes microblocks whose pixel values are all transparent color values among 16 microblocks in advance, and packs and outputs them. The packed image data from the block division part 102 are supplied to a mask pattern generation part 104 and bits corresponding to the transparent colors are set to 1 by the packed microblocks. A 16×16×1-bitαpattern is prepared and supplied to a recording signal generation part 108 through a mask pattern buffer 105. Then additional data for discriminating whether each pixel is transparent or opaque is transmitted having the corresondence relation with the data-compressed image data units.
