The transporting system (3) is formed by transportation paths or guides running in cross form and which are located in two or more planes (A,R) of movement lying one above the other. These planes are used as a working plane (A) for the parts (9) to be handled and as a return plane (R) for the empty transverse transporting bridges (7). Both planes may be occupied simultaneously by transporting bridges which, by using lift and lowering stations at the respective ends of the transportation path, provide the start of the respective movement plane.
