<p>A growth inhibitor for Thiobacillus thiooxidans, comprising at least one member selected from metals and metallic compounds insoluble in sulfuric acid, such as W, Mo, Na2WO4, Na2MoO4, or mixtures thereof. The growth inhibitor satisfactorily inhibits the growth of the above bacterium even under acidic conditions, i.e., at a pH of 4 or below, and incorporation thereof in a very small amount into, e.g., a structural material such as concrete in a sewage treatment system enables the growth of the bacterium to be inhibited without substantially sacrificing the strength or the like of the structural material per se.</p> |
