PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a complex useful as synthetic intermediate of p-hydroxy benzoic as a raw material of medicine, agrochemical material and liquid crystalline polymer, by mixing phenol with an alkali metal hydroxide in an aprotic polar solvent, and removing water therefrom. SOLUTION: This complex consisting of an alkali metal salt of phenol and an aprotic polar solvent and having 1:2 molar ratio of the alkali metal salt of phenol to the aprotic polar solvent, is obtained by mixing phenol and an alkali metal hydroxide such as sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide in the aprotic polar solvent such as dimethylsulfoxide, dimethylformamide and dimethylacetamide, and removing water therefrom. |
