PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new fluorine-containing prostaglandin derivative convertible into a physiologically active 15-deoxy-15-fluoroprostaglandin F derivative. SOLUTION: This fluorine-containing prostaglandin derivative is expressed by the formula I [A is ethylene, vinylene, ethynylene, OCH2 or SCH2 ; R<1> is an alkyl, an alkenyl, an alkynyl, a cycloalkyl, an aralkyl or an aryloxyalkyl; R<2> and R<3> are each H) or an OH-protecting group (at least one of R<2> and R<3> is not H); X is CH2 , O or S; Z is OR<4> , NHCOR<5> , NHSO2 R<6> or SR<7> (R<4> to R<7> are each H, an alkyl, etc.)], e.g. (15RS)-15-deoxy-15-fluoro-16-[3-(methyl) phenyl]-9-acetyl-11-(2-tetrahydropyranyl)-17,18, 19, 20-tetranorprostaglandin F2αmethyl ester. The compound of the formula I can be produced by fluorinating a prostaglandin compound of the formula II.
